my students are lively

Sometimes they sleep, but most of the time, my students are very active.  Today I saw a few interesting things - or at least, saw the aftermath.

I saw one girl cutting a guy's finger with scissors.  I'm not sure what was going on there, but he was definitely letting the chick do whatever it was she was doing.  I told them not to cut each other, they laughed, stopped, and continued as soon as I turned around.  Next time I noticed the guy, he had returned from the nurse with his finger all bandaged up.  As class was getting underway, I noticed a girl (not the first one, a different one) looking at her folded up worksheet ... that was covered in blood.  Apparently he'd bled all over her worksheet before he left to get bandaged up at the nurse's office.  I gave her a new worksheet, she laughed and thanked me.

During a different class I noticed a guy waving around a lock of hair.  Then I looked at a girl at his table, who seemed to be holding her head.  She was fine.  There was a lot of hair on the table, though.  I'm thinking maybe she got something stuck in her hair and the guy just pulled out a chunk of her hair for her?  And then she ... pulled out the rest herself, in smaller bits?  Not really sure.

There was a bunch of broken glass on the same table later, but from a different class.  The only explanation I got for that was, "Teacher. Panda."  I have absolutely no idea what that means - maybe there was a glass panda, and it was broken?  Maybe "panda" sounds like some English word and I'm misunderstanding them?  Maybe they are calling me a panda for reasons unknown?

Ahhh, and one of my favorite students has commented on my arm hair.  Sure, I'd like my arms to be as hairless as Asian arms, but they aren't.  (I'd say they are "average," though they look hairier now than they do in summer.)  At least my sons (and my daughters?) won't go bald -- my children will be gifted in the hair department.  That student is still a favorite, though - he still tells me he loves me and that I'm beautiful, so I'll let his attention to my "hairy arms" slide.

  1. LOL. I love your last post... you definitely DON'T wave hairy arms, but yes asians normally don't have any I find it funny that the boy pointed it out. Teacher. Panda... hmmm. Wow you have already gotten some very interesting happenings. And some are very strange... hair extensions... that seems foreign to me in a highschool girl?

  2. hahah, thanks for the reassurance on my arms! i appreciate it. :) yeah, every day is a sort of adventure -- i think, uh, teaching disabled students was really good prep for this gig, ha. i have already experienced Classroom Insanity, so the stuff over here doesn't weird me out as much as it might.
